ID-D Short Working Distance Emission Spectrometer

To improve the efficiency of XES experiments, we have collaborated with Prof. G. Seidler from the University of Washington to design, construct and test a short working distance (SWD) spectrometer specifically for measurement of Fe Kβ XES.  Fluorescence radiation is dispersed by multiple flat crystals onto a Pilatus two dimensional detector.  The pixels of the detector correspond to different energies and are calibrated using elastic scattering from a glass fiber.  Collection times are improved, relative to using a curved analyzer, due to the increase in the collected solid angle of the emission from the sample. The instrument is still at commissioning stage.
